so college
So college is alright, i'm quite enjoying it,
me, michael and the new addition kelly are half way through our EPK and it's goin alright there's a few things i want to change with it. But yeah it's ok for now.
last friday we got given the task to write a review about one of four bands and their singles/videos, i chose Linkin Park: In The End. which i love as a song and band, so it's pretty good, it's quite cool reading up on a band that i realy like.
so look out for the review on Linkin Park.
until next time i'll leave you with a saying from the awesome band DeezNuts: "Your young, be free, live your life, just remember, you cant make a ho a house wife!"

Search Engines
As part of the course I have to show evidence that I have been using search engines.
A search engine is a tool used on the world wide web to help you locating information or websites that you wouldn't be able otherwise, here is a few different search engines that I found using the most popular search engine "Google".

another day at college
so I've been told that I've got to post up here what i do all day at college, as part of my assessment so my lecturers can use it as evidence that i didn't just leave it all to the rest of my group, not that two really counts as group.
so in the last week or so we have been given several different tasks to do which have mainly been posted on this blog. But I've also been given the subject on which i have to create an EPK (electronic, press, kit)which would include a podcast created on Garage Band. Me and Michael have been given the not so interesting dance group 2FaCeD DaNcE, and their "awe inspiring" production "Still Breathing", which is about the space we as humans are given and boundaries that we have to occupy.
and basically all I've done in the last few days is a bit of painting, a bio on Michael and and research for the EPK,

Biography of Michael Kelly
From Mussels to Madras
Michael’s jet set life, that almost washed his family away.
By James Kellie
Michael is an average 16-year-old teenager with one difference Michael has had experience that most of us could only dream on having. When Michael was the age of three Michael’s father a successful mussel farmer, sold up his business and took his family on a round the world trip that has left its extraordinary mark on them all.
Michael’s trip started in morocco for 3 weeks, before moving onto India for six months walking in the wake of the Himalayas in the north, and washing his feet in the Indian Ocean in the south. They then spent a couple weeks in Indonesia, before picking up the air miles on the way Australia, where they spent an amazing six and a half years, until it was cut short by the Australian immigration department due to there visa expiring several years previous.
This however was not the end of the jet set life. One year later Michael and his family returned to the south of India, to the small coastal town of Varkala and the mountain town of Kodaikannal, where they spent four years between the two. But whilst they were living the dream they witnessed the natural disaster that shook the world, The 2004 Tsunami.
Michael and his family were on the beach a mere fifteen minutes before their little piece of heaven was ripped apart by the wrath of the ocean, but thankfully the beach was invaded by crabs who obviously knew what was coming, which forced them to abandon their plans to spend the evening on the beach, they were all very lucky.
Michael now lives a reasonable quiet life in a semi detached house in Falkirk, where he enjoys photography, reading (especially Terry Pratchett), watching movies, (his favorite film is “The good the bad and the ugly”), and of course watching TV where he likes to watch “lost, family guy and six feet under”.
Michael’s taste in music is not what you would expect from a 16 year old, his taste in music is 60’s rock for example “Simon and Garfunkel”, “Bob Dylan”, “Eric Clapton” etc…
When Michael’s older he wants to be a film maker, which he’s wanted to do since his time in India where his family bought hundreds of film’s mainly old westerns which explains his favorite film and actor Clint Eastwood.
But like most teens he’s got to wait and see where his future takes him.

Youtube...broadcast it yourself
if your going to talk about video sharing websites then the first one you talk about has to be

Youtube is the most widely used video sharing website in the world with over 100 million video clips, most of which feature homemade video's to amuse and baffle the viewer. youtube.com has on average 70 million unique visitors a month in the US and is the sixth biggest audience on the web.
the type of users has changed dramatically in the few years, originally it was people posting silly videos for friends and family or it was someone trying to show the world what weird and wonderful things they could do. but now even the political world has jumped on the youtube band wagon, with post from political candidates or even the prime minister trying to get their political views or manifesto's across to the average Joe who wouldn't sit down and watch "politics today".
youtube allows anyone store short videos for private or public viewing, in an easy to use way. Founded in 2005 by Chad Hurley, Steve Chen and Jawed Karim, it was bought over by Google in 2006 for $1.65 billion. and has grown bigger and better ever since.
it has recently struck a deal with the music business after long discussions youtube agreed to pay a fee to the music companies to allow them to show music videos on youtube again after they where banned.
one of the main bonuses that youtube offers it's users is the easy, fast way to upload youtube videos to their website be it a blog, bebo or a fan site.

like youtube "todaysbigfail.com" is a video sharing site but of a much more selective audience and function there is only one new video added a day by the creater of the site and that video is of someone failing at something for example a skater trying a trick and failing but in a hilarious way that is both entertaining and cringe worthy. and every day the viewers rate the fail out of 5.
this website is designed for entertainment not for posting your own videos or sending a message, except don't film yourself failing at something cause people will laugh at it. it's for the times you spend at your computer bored wanting to look at people doing stupid things or hurting themselves in a "why would you do that" kind of way, and in that sense it does the job brilliantly.
in the words of todays big fail "Everyday, we select a video that we feel is of an enormous fail scale and upload it for your enjoyment.
We are always looking to find new ways to make your experience even greater. But, in the end, it's all about the fails!"

flickr is one of the most popualar, user friendly file sharing websites in the world. it allows you to post photos and videos easily and share them to the world or just to a select few in seconds. There is 5 ways to upload a file either by Flickr Uploadr (available for both PC and Mac), Photo, Aperture, or Windows XP plugins, their upload web page, email or by many free third-party desktop programs.

the edit menu is an easy but highly entertaining function on the flickr sit allowing you to edit your photos to add objects or to change look of the file.

after uploading your photos and editing them you can organise them in sets.
Sets are a grouping of photos and videos that you can organize around a certain theme, such as Our Hawaii Trip. You can use them to highlight your favorite photos and videos, or make an album that is only pictures of your dog, or of photos and videos you've taken with a particular camera.

flickr also has a unique but great function of allowing you to photos by area. so you can find where someone shot the pic or see what pics have been taking in your local area.

darqroom is alot more of a professional site where photogaphers from all over the world can post there port folios either for prospective clients or for other photographers to view. unlike flickr darqroom has a much more professional feel with fast uploads and unlimited storage and a windows style photo management system.
the added bonus of darqroom is it offers a feature to get your photos turned into high quality prints that are sent to your door. sounds great yes? well no as good as it seems it isn't designed for non-members and to become a member you have to pay a fee of 59 euro's per year. which is great for the professionals but for students such as myself how just wants files for assignments flickr or one of the many other free file sharing sites is a far more useful resource.
